Creating a equality compliant workplace

The Equality Act 2010 introduced the term “protected characteristics” to refer to specified groups that are protected under the Act. These groups are:

  • Age
  • Race
  • Sex
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Disability
  • Gender reassignment
  • Marriage/ Civil Partnership
  • Religion or Belief
  • Maternity and Paternity

Every employer is obliged to comply with the Equality Act 2010 and ensure its policies procedures and behaviours reflect fair and equal treatment of all staff and the people they serve.

However, since the introduction of the Equality Act 2010 and its subsequent amendments, many employers fail to adequately implement the guidance or put in place appropriate support and monitoring procedures to ensure they meet the statutory obligations to eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation in the workplace, and endorse good relations between all staff who fall within or outside of the protected characteristic groups.

Our services provide the tools to help you improve the health and wellbeing of staff and reduce inequalities for all.
